The Search for the Glass Slipper: How to go about College Research and Find a College that Fits?

My name is Kiera Hunter, I am an AP Junior and NHS member at Desert Mountain High School, and here are my two cents on how to start researching college. The search for the right college can seem daunting, but identifying your interests and strong suits can aid the research process.

As a junior, I was sent numerous letters and emails from colleges all over the country. Such emails prompted me to ask myself: what am I looking for in a college? To answer my question, the first step I took towards finding a college that is right for me was the collegiate personality test. This quick 10-minute test helped me identify the type of college that best fit my interests.

After I received the results from my test, I searched for colleges that matched the suggested criteria. I found a few colleges that appealed to me, and looked into all the ins and outs of the college to see if it felt right. Although I am not sure exactly which major I want to do, I investigated the strongest majors and compared them with the handful of possible majors I want to go in.

You may be asking, why should I do such a test? The personality test really helped cut down the enormous numbers of colleges which saves you time and pressure. The results from my test enabled me to narrow down my research and dive deeper into certain colleges. A deeper understanding of what a college has to offer helped me better determine whether it is “right” for me. And I definitely recommend everyone take it as a first step for college research.
